Support SAF & Get a Tax Write-Off

Did you know that sponsoring, advertising, donating, or even renting a booth at the Seattle Arab Festival (SAF) may be fully or partially tax-deductible?

By supporting SAF, you’re not only enriching our community—you’re also making a smart financial move for your business.

Sponsorships & Advertising = 100% Tax-Deductible

If you sponsor SAF or pay for advertising (banners, stage mentions, social media promotion), it qualifies as a marketing or advertising business expense.

Examples:

  • Sponsorship tiers (Title, Platinum, Gold, etc.)

  • Logo on stage banners or signage

  • Ads on SAF flyers, website, or social media

What you need:

An invoice or receipt from SAF + a screenshot or photo of the promotional material.

📘 IRS Publication 535 – Business Expenses

📘 IRS: Advertising vs. Qualified Sponsorship Payments

In-Kind Donations = Deduct Fair Market Value

If your business donates items or services—like products, airline tickets, food, or raffle prizes—you can deduct their fair market value.

Examples:

  • Free airline tickets or hotel vouchers

  • Food or snacks for volunteers

  • Printing or photography services

  • Items donated for raffle giveaways and prizes

What you need:

A donation receipt from SAF and documentation showing the item’s retail value (e.g., product listing, vendor quote).

📘 IRS Publication 526 – Charitable Contributions

📘 IRS Publication 561 – Valuing Donated Property

Vendors: Booth Fees, Commissions & Discounts Are Deductible

If you’re a vendor at SAF, your booth and related expenses count as business write-offs.

Examples:

  • Booth rental fee

  • Commission you pay to SAF

  • Transportation and lodging

  • Discounts given to attract sales

  • Booth decoration and setup costs

  • Cost of goods sold

What you need:

Receipts from SAF, a record of discounts/commissions, and travel or supply invoices.

📘 IRS Publication 334 – Tax Guide for Small Business

📘 IRS: Rent Expenses (incl. Booth Fees)

🤝 Volunteers: Time Is Not Deductible, But Supplies Are!

While your personal time is not deductible, anything you buy for your volunteer activity is.

Examples:

  • Ingredients or materials for cultural booths

  • Printed posters, decorations, or props

What you need:

Receipts showing what you purchased and what it was used for.

📘 IRS Publication 526 – Charitable Contributions
